Declining Boy Scouts membership attributed to shift in policies toward the left
The Boy Scouts of America has given in to the demands of those focused on social justice — and, not surprisingly, its membership has significantly decreased.
The Scouts, soon to be renamed as Scouting America without any gender-specific terms, have taken a leftist turn in recent years.
The change in name is significant as it continues to erode spaces traditionally geared towards boys.
In addition to this, the organization has been allowing the inclusion of girls and transgender children for some time; during the George Floyd protests, they added a “diversity and inclusion” merit badge to the requirements for becoming an Eagle Scout and showed support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
What about the traditional activities like woodcraft, soapbox derbies, and camping by the fire?
Or the simple bonding experiences that outdoor adventures offer?
That’s why people originally joined the Scouts.
Not to be lectured about their alleged racism.
It’s no surprise that many former Scout families have left the organization.
Membership dropped from 1.97 million in 2019 to 1.12 million in 2023 — a decline of over 43%.
When will the leaders of these large, all-encompassing organizations understand?
Americans don’t want politics to infiltrate every aspect of their lives.
Whether it’s purchasing beer, shopping at major retailers, or finding wholesome activities for their children.
Just like with the Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney incident and many other examples, when woke authorities try to turn even the simplest, day-to-day activities into part of a strange propaganda campaign, regular individuals are now willing to say No!
And the fact that this is an organization for children makes it even more troubling; kids don’t have strong political opinions, they just want to have fun and learn.
Not be brainwashed.
It remains to be seen if the Scouts can recover from this decline.
But one thing that is clear is that “normies” all over the country are tired of woke culture — and they’re not afraid to show it.
