Jared Polis Successfully Navigates Hunter Biden Pardon IQ Test — Can His Party Keep Up?
A prominent Democrat has taken a stand on Hunter Biden’s controversial pardon — but how many others will rise to the occasion?
“The president prioritized his family over the nation,” declared Colorado Governor Jared Polis on X. “Hunter brought on his own legal problems, and while we can empathize with his challenges, we must recognize that no one is above the law.”
Indeed, Polis may be bolstering his appeal as he eyes a potential 2028 presidential run.
However, Hunter’s nearly unprecedented pardon, which protects him from any actions since 2014, poses a significant test for Democrats.
A test that the party’s leaders appear poised to fail spectacularly.
Consider White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre’s awkward attempts today to justify Biden’s controversial actions, attributing them to “war politics” — whatever that might mean. How can Biden assert that the Department of Justice operates independently while simultaneously claiming the prosecution is politically motivated?
Let’s be clear: Hunter is a privileged young man who has repeatedly exploited his father’s name for profit while engaging in drug use, associating with sex workers, and committing firearm offenses.
All the while documenting his questionable behavior.
Once his illicit activities were exposed, courtesy of yet another blunder (leaving his laptop at a repair shop), the party’s reaction mirrored that of Camp Biden.
It’s Russian disinformation. It’s not a big deal. Joe never personally profited.
And the excuses kept piling up.
There was no real need for representatives like Dan Goldman and AOC to contort themselves in defense of him.
Except for the fear that exposing Hunter would lead to a revelation of Joe’s own questionable conduct.
Thus, Democrats fought hard for the Scranton Scuzzball.
And what did he do in return? He utterly and humiliatingly let them down, contributing to Donald Trump’s victory and handing the Senate to the GOP.
This was largely because voters had grown weary of the corruption and incompetence associated with Biden.
The pressing question remains: Why are any prominent Democrats still supporting him?
There’s no political advantage left in it. It’s merely blind partisan loyalty.
It’s detrimental to the country, harmful to the party, and bad for individual Democrats in office.
A few have seen the light: Critics of the pardon include Blue Dog Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.), as well as Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.), along with Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) — who bravely spoke out about Joe Biden’s mental decline during his establishment-challenged primary campaign.
To the other Democrats: Emulate their courage.
A significant amount of intra-party dissent may prevent what seems to be Joe’s next likely action—a sweeping pardon for Hunter’s influence-peddling mentor, Uncle Jim Biden.
If not, brace yourselves for more electoral devastation in the coming years.
