MSNBC faces potential legal consequences for defaming a doctor in its relentless pursuit to undermine Trump
MSNBC may finally be facing consequences for its extreme dislike of Donald Trump.
A $30 million defamation lawsuit against MSNBC recently received approval from a Georgia judge.
The judge ruled that Rachel Maddow and others, encouraged by NBCUniversal executives, recklessly spread false information in a story claiming a gynecologist at a Trump-era immigration facility performed unnecessary “mass hysterectomies” on women.
Despite expressing doubts privately, reporters continued to produce sensational stories online and on air about the alleged “uterus collector.” The source of these reports, former nurse Dawn Wooten, admitted that her claims about Dr. Mahendra Amin were based on hearsay.
During the discovery process of the lawsuit, doubts from NBC News executives and reporters about the accuracy of the story were revealed.
In a conference call, NBC News veteran Chris Scholl admitted, “We just don’t know if any of this is true.” The court documents also show that Rachel Maddow initially questioned the reporting on the allegations but proceeded to cover it anyway.
Despite concerns from NBC News, evening programs on MSNBC aired multiple segments about Wooten’s allegations.
The judge’s ruling found that Maddow, Hayes, and Wallace made 39 “verifiably false” allegations about Dr. Amin.
In 2021, Dr. Amin filed a lawsuit against NBC, stating that after being defamed by MSNBC, he faced public hatred and threats.
I hope that Maddow and her colleagues publicly apologize to the doctor they defamed, as well as to the public they misled.
They should be held accountable for their journalistic malpractice, which tarnishes the entire profession. It’s time for them to stand up for the truth.
