NYC’s best activity during a heatwave: Staying indoors
Some cities water flowers, but in New York, we water the sidewalks to rid them of the pungent smell of garbage left out in the sun.
That’s the signature scent of summer in NYC, along with the odor of pot that seems to permeate the air. Despite the official start of the season, the ongoing heatwave has made it feel like August is already here.
The heatwave has been brutal, with temperatures soaring into the mid-90s, reminding us that the best place to be in NYC year-round is indoors.
Outdoor activities in the city are less than ideal. Take outdoor dining, for example. Sitting outside in cramped sheds or at street tables can quickly turn into an unpleasant experience filled with noise and smells.
Instead of enduring the chaos of outdoor activities, New Yorkers might find solace in enclosed buildings with air conditioning, where they can escape the scorching heat and enjoy some peace and quiet.
