Randi Weingarten Should Face the Outrage of Parents Nationwide

Randi Weingarten, the leader of the American Federation of Teachers, is suddenly outraged over Team Trump’s proposal to eliminate the federal Department of Education, but her concerns stem from her own diminishing power rather than any real threat to children.

Weingarten claims that America’s “rivals and foes are undoubtedly applauding President Donald Trump’s initiative to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education,” insisting in her MSNBC column that the DOE ensures “all children in the United States have access to the excellent public school education they deserve.”

This is misleading: Very few children in America truly experience “excellent public school education,” as evidenced by our poor performance in international assessments.

She claims that “a diminished department would result in fewer teachers, larger class sizes, and heightened mental health and behavioral challenges for students.”

“This would likely lead to higher absentee rates and lower graduation rates.”

Excuse me?

The expansive public education system misallocates resources away from classrooms while wasting money on ineffective methods for addressing behavioral issues, like implementing woke “restorative justice” instead of proper school discipline.

Furthermore, chronic absenteeism nearly doubled nationwide between 2018 and 2022, largely due to Randi’s COVID school closures.

Regarding graduation rates, the preferred union solution is to inflate these figures by lowering standards and removing standardized tests from the equation.

She accuses Team Trump of “redirecting billions from our children,” but the truth is, the goal is to redirect funds from the unions and their affiliated bureaucrats, ensuring that money is actually spent on educating kids.

AFT founder Albert Shanker was notably more candid: “When schoolchildren start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of schoolchildren.”

As a union operative who hasn’t spent enough time teaching in a real classroom to legitimately call herself a “teacher,” Randi Weingarten shows little regard for children, and American parents are beginning to recognize this reality.

It’s satisfying to witness her influence wane.
