Devotees shed tears and offer gospel prayers as Donald Trump recounts assassination attempt – US News

We have witnessed a transformed version of Donald Trump this week, a man who has been humbled by a near-death experience.

Throughout this convention, he has exuded a softer, more gentle demeanor than what we are accustomed to, basking in the assurance of a “great love in the room,” as he expressed it.

The atmosphere inside Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum accurately reflected this sentiment. His personal encounter has shifted the dynamic with his audience.

In rapt attention, amidst occasional bursts of applause, the attendees listened to Trump’s firsthand recollection of the assassination attempt.

“It was a warm, beautiful day in the early evening in Butler Township in the great commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” he recounted, before methodically narrating how a bullet grazed the upper part of his right ear, causing him to swiftly drop to the ground.

Though Trump has always evoked a cult-like devotion in his followers, this week has elevated it to reverence and awe.

As he described “blood pouring from everywhere” and the Secret Service taking him down to the ground, some delegates wiped away tears while others raised their arms in prayer, resembling a scene from a fervent church service.

“In a certain way, I felt very safe, because I had God on my side,” Trump remarked. Inside the arena, it felt almost sacred.

“I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” he remarked. “Yes, you are,” they chanted in response. It was a display of support and synergy that felt unstoppable.

Seldom seen in public alongside her husband for months, Melania had maintained such a low profile that a leading newspaper superimposed her face onto a “Where’s Wally?” illustration.

“Missing Melania” car bumper stickers became available for purchase online, and an airplane flew over a university American football game trailing a banner that read: “Where’s Melania?”
