Latest Charges: Will Donald Trump Stand Trial and Potentially Face Prison? | US News

Donald Trump has been criminally charged for the third time in four months as he seeks to regain the presidency in 2024. The latest indictments are related to his attempts to overturn the previous election and are considered to be the most serious. The charges include conspiracy to defraud the US, conspiracy against rights, corrupt obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding. The maximum sentences for these charges range from five to 20 years in prison. Trump’s trial is expected to take place many months from now, as both sides engage in pretrial motions and discovery. Despite the charges, Trump remains the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination according to public opinion polls. However, the indictments may have limited impact on his ability to win over more skeptical moderate Republicans and independents in the general election. Furthermore, Trump is also facing a fourth criminal investigation in Georgia for accusations of seeking to undo his election loss in that state.
