One Individual Fatally Shot in ‘Isolated’ Incident at Georgia Army Base
AUGUSTA, Ga.—A U.S. Army base in Georgia was placed on lockdown Saturday following the shooting and death of an individual, which base officials labeled as an isolated incident.
The suspect was taken into custody, and an “all clear” signal was issued less than an hour after Fort Eisenhower initiated lockdown procedures, as communicated by the installation’s operations center via social media.
The incident occurred at housing facilities on the base, located outside Augusta, Georgia, as stated by authorities.
Details regarding the victim will remain private until their family has been informed, according to statements from the base. No additional information has been shared so far.
“Fort Eisenhower is providing active support to the victim’s family and resources will be available for anyone affected by this tragedy,” said the installation in an official statement.
The alert was published on social media Saturday morning with a “LOCK DOWN! LOCK DOWN!” message, instructing individuals on base to immediately execute lockdown protocols. “If you are in danger, take appropriate action,” the message advised.
Shortly thereafter, the operations center reported that the threat had been resolved and that normal activities could resume. However, all events related to the afternoon Army-Navy football game, which was taking place outside Washington, were canceled.
Representatives from the base’s public affairs office, the medical center, and the nearby Richmond County Sheriff’s Office did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
Previously known as Fort Gordon, the installation hosts the United States Army Cyber Command.
