Recall Issued for 60,000 Wawa Tumblers with Metal Straws that Pose Cutting Hazard to Customers
NEW YORK—Around 60,000 beverage tumblers with Wawa branding are being recalled due to a laceration risk from the metal straw included in the products.
A notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday stated that the metal straw in the tumblers being recalled can potentially cause cuts to a user’s mouth or fingers, leading to four reported injuries so far.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using these metal straws and contact Halo Branding Solutions in Illinois, the distributor of the products, to obtain a silicone replacement. Customers who wish to return the tumbler can receive a $15 refund in the form of a gift card.
It is emphasized in Thursday’s notice that affected consumers should not attempt to return these products to Wawa stores. More information on how to participate in the recall can be found on Halo’s website.
The recalled tumblers were exclusively sold at Wawa stores in Alabama, Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland in August of this year. The 24-ounce drinkware was available in four different styles.
The Associated Press reached out to Wawa in Pennsylvania and Halo for additional comments on Thursday.
