Taylor Swift publicly supports Kamala Harris as a strong leader shortly after the Donald Trump debate | US News

Taylor Swift has announced her support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming US election, making her endorsement shortly after the debate with Donald Trump concluded.

In an Instagram post, she shared a picture of herself holding her cat Benjamin Button, making a subtle nod to Mr. Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s controversial “childless cat lady” comments.

Swift encouraged her 283 million followers to “do your research” and explained that AI-generated images of her endorsing Mr. Trump prompted her to clarify her actual voting intentions.

“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she declared. “I support Kamala Harris because she champions the rights and causes that I believe require a strong advocate.

“I view her as a composed and skilled leader, and I believe our country can achieve more when led by stability rather than chaos.

“I was particularly impressed by her choice of running mate Tim Walz, who has been a longstanding supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s reproductive rights.”

‘Massive star’ endorsement could be ‘huge’

Sky News US correspondent James Matthews noted that Swift’s endorsement is significant for the Harris-Walz campaign.

“She is a massive star, huge,” he remarked. “She connects with people in a way that politicians cannot, and Taylor Swift’s message will resonate with a vast audience well beyond those actively following the political discourse.

“The timing of her endorsement was likely deliberate. Tonight, Taylor Swift is the headline. Tomorrow, the focus will shift to Kamala Harris and Taylor Swift, and the momentum they will generate.”

This marks Taylor Swift’s first public statement regarding the 2024 election. While she endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, it was only a month before the election took place.

Despite her global fame, even Taylor Swift is not immune to the complexities of American politics. Following her announcement, she experienced a decline in social media followers.
