Bob Rae Chosen to Head United Nations International Development Organization
Bob Rae, Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations, will lead the UN’s Economic and Social Council.
Global Affairs Canada has announced that Mr. Rae has been chosen as the president of the council for a one-year term.
The Economic and Social Council is one of the UN’s principal bodies and oversees its efforts on global development.
Global Affairs has outlined that Mr. Rae’s presidency will prioritize the ethical usage of artificial intelligence for sustainable development, worldwide migration, and financial strategies for global development.
This term aligns with Canada assuming the presidency of the G7 group of nations next year.
Mr. Rae becomes only the third Canadian to serve as president of a UN charter body.
