Canadian Company’s Thrill as Firefly’s Blue Ghost Successfully Lands on Moon
The head of a Quebec aerospace company expresses his excitement over the successful landing of a private lunar lander with his company’s technology on board.
Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost safely touched down on the moon from lunar orbit, carrying experiments for NASA and various Canadian-based technologies.
Jean De Lafontaine describes this moment as the result of a ten-year effort by NGC Aerospace, based in Sherbrooke, Que., which develops a lunar navigation system similar to GPS to map the moon’s craters.
He believes that this technology will enable scientists to make more precise calculations for lunar landings, helping them target specific areas and avoid hazardous ones.
In addition to NASA’s experiments, the lunar lander also transported NGC’s software and a Canadian-made moon dust repellent.
The successful upright and stable landing makes Firefly the first private company to land a spacecraft on the moon without incident.
