Children’s Care Center Adapts to Support Victims of War After Oct. 7
An Israeli support center for children with cancer, Rachashei Lev, found itself involved in the country’s wartime reality when faced with the need to support wounded soldiers and their families. After the Hamas attack on Oct. 7, the CEO of Rachashei Lev, Shimi Geshayed, quickly mobilized resources to aid wounded soldiers, raising funds for medical equipment to be brought to the battlefield.
Rachashei Lev, akin to Ronald McDonald House, offers support for children’s families during treatment regimens in partnership with two hospitals, Chaim Sheba Medical Center and Ichilov. The center provides crucial assistance to soldiers and their families, offering places to stay, meals, laundry, personal services, and entertainment to ease their discomfort.
Capt. Itamar Shapira, a soldier wounded in the Gaza battle, shared his harrowing experience of being injured, undergoing several surgeries, and facing the challenges of recovery. He emphasized the importance of families being by their side during the difficult times.
Maya Regev, held captive for 50 days by Hamas, faced a traumatic ordeal but managed to secure her release through her wit and resilience. Her father, Ilan Regev, worked tirelessly to bring her and his son Itay back home, enduring the uncertainty and challenges posed by the hostage situation.
