Defence Minister Bill Blair Announces Navy Vessels Deployment in Indo-Pacific as Part of Strategy

Defence Minister Bill Blair announces that Royal Canadian Navy vessels will be sent to support the Indo-Pacific Strategy in the near future.

The Department of National Defence confirms that HMCS Vancouver will head to Hawaii for Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2024 (RIMPAC), the world’s largest joint maritime exercise.

Joining RIMPAC will be HMCS Max Bernays, MV Asterix, and about 300 Canadian Armed Forces members on shore.

This marks the second consecutive year that three warships from the navy will be deployed to the region.

After RIMPAC 2024, Vancouver will proceed westward across the Pacific Ocean for Operation Horizon, a mission for forward presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Blair, speaking at the Shangri-La defence forum in Singapore, emphasizes that Canada’s partnership for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region is crucial for its future.
