Former Prime Minister’s Departure from Parliament Accompanied by Plea for Australians to Rediscover Their Christian Faith
Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will today deliver a valedictory speech after nearly two decades in politics.
Mr. Morrison announced his retirement from politics in January and will now pursue a new career in corporate advisory after serving as Australia’s 30th Prime Minister from 2018 to May 2022.
His departure will prompt a by-election for the Cook seat in South Sydney, which he has held for 17 years.
Throughout his political career, Mr. Morrison held several key positions, including minister of immigration, social services, and treasurer.
After becoming leader in 2018, Mr. Morrison faced challenges such as criticism for his handling of various incidents, including the 2019 bushfire season and allegations of sexual misconduct in Parliament.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Morrison led Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and played a significant role in the signing of the AUKUS security pact with the UK and the US.
His tenure was not without controversy, as he canceled a submarine deal with France which led to strained relations with President Macron.
Mr. Morrison’s government also called for an investigation into the origins of COVID-19, resulting in trade tensions with China.
In his farewell speech, Mr. Morrison is expected to focus on reconnecting with Christian values and addressing threats of authoritarianism from countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
He will also discuss his new role with U.S.-based consulting firm American Global Strategies and advisory position with DYNE Maritime, a venture capital company invested in AUKUS.
