Garage Forecourt Fuel Delivery Drivers Set to Strike
The Unite union announced that tanker drivers supplying garage forecourts and aviation fuel are set to go on strike in the North West and Scottish Borders.
United the union stated on Friday that members of Unite, based at Stanlow oil refinery, will stage a strike from June 6 to June 8, then again from June 13 to June 15. The strike is in response to a pay dispute and is expected to impact deliveries in the region.
The drivers, employed by Hoyer (now rebranded as Oxalis), believe that the pay offer they have received is significantly lower compared to their counterparts in other regions.
Oxalis mentioned that they have put contingency plans in place to ensure their operations continue running smoothly despite the strike.
Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, expressed support for the drivers, stating, “Oxalis is treating its Stanlow-based drivers as second-class workers. There is absolutely no reason why this profitable company should not be paying these workers the same rates as pay as their colleagues based elsewhere.”
An Oxalis spokesperson countered stating, “Oxalis has offered drivers a 19 percent pay increase over two years. Any further increase severely compromises the viability of the operation and puts jobs at risk.”
“Further talks are planned with the union and whilst we hope we can reach a mutually agreeable deal, contingency plans are fully developed and we are confident all our operations will continue should industrial action take place.”
