Hezbollah retaliates with rocket attacks on Israel following pre-emptive IDF airstrikes

The IDF revealed that earlier airstrikes had prevented a larger attack, as Hezbollah initiated retaliation for the killing of its military commander last month.

Hezbollah’s statement on Sunday confirmed the start of their retaliation against Israel following the death of Fuad Shukr in Beirut.

Videos on social media showed Iron Dome missiles intercepting inbound targets from Lebanon towards northern Israel. Rocket sirens were heard in various locations, including Golan Heights and Upper Galilee border communities. Drone sirens also sounded in Galilee towns.

Hezbollah claimed to have launched over 320 rockets and multiple explosive-laden drones towards northern Israel, targeting 11 military bases. Meanwhile, the IDF conducted preemptive airstrikes on Hezbollah launch sites in Lebanon, thwarting a massive attack.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari mentioned that Israel preemptively acted against a potential mass attack by Hezbollah on central Israel, deploying around 100 warplanes prior to the scheduled assault at 5 a.m.

Hezbollah managed to launch some rockets and drones towards northern Israel despite the IDF’s efforts.

Following the attacks, Hezbollah declared extensive strikes had been carried out against Israeli targets, prompting a proactive response from the IAF and Northern Command to eliminate threats posed by the terrorist organization.

Israel’s MDA reported rocket and drone sirens across northern Israel starting early in the morning, with no injuries reported so far.

Hagari also issued a warning to civilians in southern Lebanon, urging them to stay safe as Hezbollah’s attacks endangered their lives.

Israel’s Foreign Minister’s office highlighted that the strikes on Hezbollah were in response to credible threats of a major attack. The U.S. reaffirmed its support for Israel’s defense against Iranian-backed aggression.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant coordinated Israel’s response, declaring a “special situation” with temporary movement restrictions.

Hezbollah’s retaliatory actions were expected following the killing of Shukr, with Israel aiming to defend against threats while avoiding escalation.

Hagari emphasized the military’s preparedness for the challenges ahead.

By 7 a.m., flights in Israel had resumed, indicating a return to normalcy amidst heightened tensions.

U.S. General Brown’s visit to the Middle East aimed to address regional stability and prevent further escalation in the conflict.
