Israeli Army Chief Predicts Gaza War will Continue for Several Months

The war would go on ‘for many months,’ says Israeli military chief.

CAIRO/GAZA/JERUSALEM—Israel’s Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, stated on Tuesday that the war with Hamas would continue for “many months.” Halevi emphasized that there are no quick solutions and that determined and consistent fighting is necessary to dismantle a terrorist organization. He added that they will continue their efforts to reach Hamas’s leadership regardless of whether it takes weeks or months. The outgoing Dutch finance minister, Sigrid Kaag, will coordinate humanitarian relief shipments into Gaza per a U.N. Security Council resolution adopted on Friday.

Israel remains steadfast in its determination to obliterate Hamas despite calls for a ceasefire and concerns about the conflict spreading to other regions. Since the brutal assault by Hamas on Israel on Oct. 7 that resulted in more than 1,200 deaths, Israel has declared war on Hamas and has inflicted heavy damage on much of Gaza. The health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza have reported nearly 21,000 casualties in Israeli strikes.
