Quebec City and Surrounding Areas Face Police Response to Drug Territory Conflict
Provincial police have initiated an operation in response to heightened violence between independent drug dealers and criminal biker gangs.
Approximately 100 officers from specialized units were deployed on Feb. 23 across the province to address what they describe as a turf war over drug-selling territory in the Quebec City area, the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region, the Lower St-Lawrence, and the North Shore.
In a recent violent incident, one man was killed and three others were injured during a hostage taking on Feb. 19 in St-Malachie, Que., located south of the provincial capital.
Individuals with links to the Hells Angels were reportedly abducted and subjected to torture, resulting in the death of a third person in the community.
Police announced the arrest of three individuals on Feb. 23 in connection with this violence.
Lt. Benoit Richard stated that videos showing individuals connected to the drug war being tortured have also been circulated.
