Record Rainfall in Toronto Causes Flash Flooding, Roads Now Open
Following Toronto’s flash flooding on July 16 that submerged vehicles on the Don Valley Parkway, major roads have now reopened. At the peak of the storm, 167,000 Hydro One customers were without power, with over 4,000 still affected as of 8 a.m. local time.
This weather event has been compared to Toronto’s 2013 flooding, causing approximately $1 billion in damages when adjusted for inflation in 2021. Environment Canada reported that some areas received 100 millimetres of rain, breaking Toronto’s daily record set in 1941.
