Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, demands Election Watchdog to probe undercover sting operation
Reform alleged that Channel 4 had utilized an actor as a plant in their undercover expose on Nigel Farage’s election campaign, a claim that the broadcaster has refuted.
Nigel Farage’s Reform UK has lodged a complaint with the elections watchdog against Channel 4, alleging that the broadcaster had employed an actor as a “plant” in their undercover investigation into his campaign.
The broadcaster denied any involvement with Andrew Parker, who was captured using a racial slur to describe Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, before the airing of the exposĂ© on Mr. Farage’s General Election campaign in the Clacton constituency.
However, Reform, in a letter to the Electoral Commission, expressed disbelief at the coincidence and categorized Channel 4’s report as “election interference.”
Channel 4 News clarified that they did not compensate Mr. Parker, who was unknown to the broadcaster and was filmed covertly as part of the sting operation.
Separately, Mr. Farage is in a dispute with the BBC, claiming that the audience for the recent Question Time special was manipulated and refusing to participate in the “Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg” show unless an apology is issued.
The disagreement with Channel 4 stemmed from an undercover investigation on activists involved in Mr. Farage’s pursuit of a Westminster seat.
