Shadow Minister pledges to conduct audit of China relations during first 100 days in office, Labour Party announces

Labour will prioritize national security while trading with Beijing, as announced by Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow paymaster general.

If elected into government, Labour plans to conduct a full audit of the UK’s relations with Beijing within the first 100 days, according to a shadow Cabinet minister on Wednesday.

Amid reports linking the Chinese regime to a recent cyber attack on the armed forces’ payment system, Jonathan Ashworth emphasized the need to address such threats.

The UK government acknowledged the possibility of foreign state involvement in the suspected hacking that affected military personnel. However, no specific suspect has been named.

Discussing Labour’s approach to cyber attacks, Ashworth stressed the importance of enhancing the country’s defenses against such threats.

The party plans to scrutinize all UK-China relations if elected, given the strategic challenges posed by China, said the Labour frontbencher.

Ashworth emphasized the need to prioritize national security over trade with China, citing the protection of citizens as the top priority for a Labour government.

Following the discovery of the cyber attack, the Ministry of Defence took measures to investigate and address potential vulnerabilities to prevent future incidents.

Recent sanctions imposed by the government highlight the impact of cyber attacks, underscoring the need for robust security measures.
