Three bodies found in BC Park where missing mountaineers were last seen: RCMP
Three bodies have been discovered by Mounties in Squamish, B.C., in the area of Garibaldi Provincial Park where three mountaineers had disappeared the previous month.
According to a statement from the RCMP, BJ Chute, the manager of Squamish Search and Rescue, mentioned that the team collaborated with the police to conduct the recovery mission in the Atwell Peak region on the morning of July 8.
The identities of the deceased have not been revealed by the RCMP at the request of their families for privacy.
The trio of mountaineers were last spotted on May 31 in a location described as intricate and distant by local authorities.
Initial days of the search operation faced challenges due to adverse weather conditions, such as high avalanche risks and poor visibility.
Squamish Search and Rescue shared an update on social media nearly a week after the disappearance of the group, indicating a temporary halt to the search effort. They later resumed operations but modified their tactics due to the hazardous terrain and weather conditions.
An investigation into the deaths is now being conducted by the RCMP and BC Coroners Service.
