Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah, who was
killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sept. 27, was crucial in perpetrating terror in the Middle East and causing significant suffering to innocent people.
Trudeau mentioned, “He was the head of a terrorist organization that targeted and killed innocent civilians, leading to immense suffering throughout the region,” in a series of X posts on the evening of Sept. 28.
Trudeau’s comments followed the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF)
announcement earlier that same day confirming Nasrallah’s death in the airstrike on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut. Hezbollah also
confirmed its leader’s demise.
According to the IDF, Nasrallah, during his tenure as Hezbollah’s secretary-general from
1992 to 2024, was accountable for many Israeli civilian and soldier deaths, along with planning and executing numerous terrorist activities.
“He coordinated and executed terrorist attacks globally, resulting in the loss of civilian lives of various nationalities,” the IDF’s statement stated.
‘Diplomatic Solution’
In his Sept. 28 posts, Trudeau also urged immediate actions to safeguard civilians, calling for “calm and restraint during this critical time.”
“Canada is actively pursuing a diplomatic solution to ensure the safe return of people to Israel and Lebanon. We advocate for peace and stability in the region and repeat our plea for an urgent ceasefire,” wrote the prime minister on X.
Just two days prior, on Sept. 25, Canada, along with allies, issued a
joint statement calling for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Lebanon-Israel border due to the risk of broader regional escalation.
‘Justice’
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre expressed a different perspective from Trudeau, emphasizing that the Lebanese terrorist group should initiate a ceasefire.
“Hezbollah should cease attacks on Israel, stop using innocent people in Lebanon as human shields, and disarm to end this war,” Poilievre
stated on X on the morning of Sept. 28, before Trudeau’s remarks.
‘Won’t Rest’
Hezbollah joined forces with Hamas in its conflict against Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, following an unexpected attack by Hamas on Israel.
“The people of Israel, Lebanon, and the Middle East have endured decades of his violent acts and terror, supported by Tehran’s criminal regime,” he added.
‘Won’t Rest’
Netanyahu, speaking at the U.N. General Assembly on Sept. 27, emphasized that Israel has the right to eliminate the threat posed by its foes and bring its citizens, held by Hamas, back home safely.
