So Far, Pro-Trump Groups Outspend Pro-Biden Groups
Recent campaign finance records show that outside groups supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign have outspent those working towards the reelection of Democrat President Joe Biden. Since March 6, pro-Trump spending groups have spent over $25 million, compared to the more than $15 million spent by Biden’s allies during the same period, according to a Reuters analysis.
The largest pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., reported having $93.7 million in the bank at the end of May, a significant increase from $33 million at the end of April. Both sides have focused their recent spending on television attack ads in an effort to influence the small group of U.S. voters who will decide the outcome of the election on Nov. 5.
Trump allies are working to counter Biden’s early fundraising lead, as Biden reported $84 million in the bank at the end of April compared to Trump’s $49 million. Despite Trump’s fundraising challenges, both campaigns are neck-and-neck in national polls, with Trump holding a slight advantage in key battleground states.
Both campaigns are set to report updated campaign finance figures on Thursday. Super PACs face no fundraising limits, but they are prohibited from coordinating with the candidates they support. MAGA Inc. has spent about $18 million to support Trump’s campaign, while Future Forward, the largest super PAC backing Biden, has reported less than $1 million in new expenditures since March 6.
A senior Democrat with ties to Future Forward stated that the group plans to increase spending in the final months of the election. American Bridge 21st Century, another Democratic super PAC, has spent over $11 million so far, with a focus on attracting women voters in key battleground states.
