Elon Musk deems allowing large numbers of unvetted individuals into the US as irrational

Tech billionaire Elon Musk voiced his concerns on social media regarding the influx of illegal immigrants into the United States during President Joe Biden’s administration.

“More than the population of 36 states in just over 3 years!” Musk stated in a tweet on Tuesday. “I support legal immigration, being an immigrant myself, but allowing millions of unvetted individuals to enter the U.S. illegally is nonsensical.”

Musk, who immigrated from South Africa, was responding to a post by conservative commentator Ashley St. Clair, claiming that 7.2 million illegal immigrants have entered the country since Biden assumed office in 2021.

“Over 1,000 of them have taken over NYC City Hall Park here to protest being sent to shelters and are demanding permanent housing,” stated St. Clair, along with a picture showing herself holding a sign with the number “7.2 million” and individuals who appeared to be foreign nationals in the background.

According to Customs and Border Protection, over 9.5 million migrants have crossed into the U.S. illegally, according to the most recent data from March.

This isn’t the first time Musk has expressed concerns about the challenges posed by illegal immigration.

In February, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX warned about the significant surge of illegal immigrants, which he said is “straining the nation.”

“There are overwhelming issues across the country,” Musk wrote. “The U.S. accounts for only 4% of the world’s population. If even just 1% of the global population moves here, it would overwhelm all essential services.”

“I am sounding the alarm because the influx of unauthorized individuals is overwhelming the nation!” he added.

In an opinion piece for Newsmax last month, Larry Bell, a professor at the University of Houston, emphasized why Senate Democrats voted against an amendment by Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn, to exclude illegal immigrants from being included in the census count with lawful citizens.

States that have large numbers of illegal immigrants gain additional representation in Congress, while those with fewer numbers lose out, explained Bell, due to the fixed number of 435 members in the House of Representatives since 1910.

Each state is allocated one seat, with the remaining seats distributed based on population size using a complex formula.
