Judge in Hush-Money Case Involving Trump Should Recuse Himself
Donald Trump is calling for a New York judge to step down from his former presidential hush-money criminal trial after the judge imposed a gag order that Trump believes violates his First Amendment Right to speak out.
State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan imposed a gag order on Tuesday, prohibiting Trump from making public statements about witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and jurors in the upcoming trial scheduled to begin on April 15.
In response to the gag order, Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday morning, accusing Judge Juan Merchan of unlawfully attempting to take away his Rights by issuing the order.
On Tuesday, Trump also mentioned that Merchan’s daughter works at a “Super Liberal Democrat firm” in a post on Truth Social.
Trump continued his criticism of the judge and called for his recusal in another post on Wednesday, alleging bias and conflict of interest.
The trial pertains to allegations of hush money paid during Trump’s 2016 campaign to cover up claims of marital infidelity.
