Ian Krager, Pelosi’s spokesperson (D-Calif.), reported that she is “recovering well” following the procedure.
“Earlier today, Speaker Emerita Pelosi successfully underwent hip replacement surgery and is recovering well,” Krager stated. “She is thankful to the U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and the medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their exceptional care and support.”
“Speaker Pelosi appreciates the tremendous outpouring of prayers and well wishes and remains committed to advocating for quality healthcare access for all Americans,” he added.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the 84-year-old tripped and fell after taking a group photo with fellow lawmakers during a visit to Luxembourg for the anniversary observance of the Battle of the Bulge.
“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official event and was subsequently admitted to the hospital for assessment,” Krager reported on Friday.
Pelosi was in Luxembourg as part of a congressional delegation visiting a World War II battlefield, joined by 18 lawmakers to honor the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, which marked the final significant German offensive on the Western Front during World War II.
