Newsmax Interview with Mark Halperin: Sen. Katie Britt Considered as Potential VP Pick

Political analyst Mark Halperin told Newsmax on Monday that he sees Alabama Sen. Katie Britt as Donald Trump’s choice for his running mate in the presidential election.

“I think Katie Britt is going to be Trump’s pick” for vice president, Halperin told “Wake Up America.”

He insisted that “I am going all in on this. I just think, compared to the other alternatives, her upsides are huge, her downsides are very minimal and, above all else, she can go to the suburbs of Philadelphia, Atlanta, Milwaukee and Phoenix and most of the other people being talked about [as potential Trump running mates] would have trouble doing that and she speaks fluent MAGA.”

Talking about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis deciding to drop out of the presidential race, Halperin said it was not a surprise that he did so.

“I think the only reason he thought about staying in the race is there is uncertainty about Donald Trump and whether his legal troubles will cause the Republican Party to have second thoughts,” Halperin said.

He added that “staying in the race, which Haley might decide to do, is something that is tempting, to hang around, accumulate delegates and see what happens.”

Halperin emphasized that the withdrawal of DeSantis from the race helps Trump, even though having only one candidate opposing the former president could help consolidate the anti-Trump vote.

But Halperin pointed out that Haley does not have the demographic support in New Hampshire, which is her best state, to beat Trump.

Regarding a criminal conviction harming Trump’s chances, Halperin stressed that it still a long way from that as there are no trials set and merely speculation about how it would influence the vote, adding that it is very unlikely that the trials will even reach that stage by the time of the general election.
