Report: Biden Administration Investigating TikTok for Data Practices

According to Politico, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is currently investigating TikTok for potential privacy and data security issues. The investigation may result in a lawsuit or settlement being brought forward in the coming weeks.

In March, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill giving ByteDance six months to sell the U.S. assets of TikTok or face a ban. The White House and President Joe Biden have expressed support for this action, urging the Senate to act quickly.

In 2020, Reuters reported that the FTC and the U.S. Justice Department were looking into allegations that TikTok did not comply with a 2019 agreement aimed at protecting children’s privacy.

At present, TikTok has not provided a comment in response to a request from Reuters.
