Senator Barrasso asserts unwavering backing in race for GOP Whip position
According to The Hill, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chair of the Senate GOP Conference, has secured enough votes to become the next Republican whip.
Although there were speculations that Barrasso would aim to replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who plans to step down in November, he stated this week that he has enough support from conference members to become the whip.
Speaking to reporters, Barrasso highlighted his track record as chairman of the policy committee and the conference, emphasizing the credibility, reliability, and timeliness of the information he provided to members.
Sen. John Thune of South Dakota currently serves as the Republican whip but is vying to replace McConnell as the GOP leader. Barrasso’s bid for the whip position followed a letter he wrote to colleagues seeking their backing for his candidacy.
In the letter obtained by NBC News, Barrasso emphasized the need for change, transparency, and alignment of priorities with those of voters within the Republican Conference.
