Senator Graham Seeks Explanation for Unsuccessful Breach at Quantico
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., posed questions to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following an incident where two Jordanian nationals attempted to breach the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia.
In a letter issued on Thursday, Graham, the Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member, asked Mayorkas for details on how the individuals entered the United States, their immigration status, and whether they are associated with any terrorist watchlist.
“Please provide the committee with answers to these questions, along with any other relevant information about their background and intentions, including the most up-to-date alien files for each person. This information will help us assess the ongoing threat to national security posed by such incidents,” Graham wrote.
The two Jordanians are currently in custody for allegedly attempting to access the base under false pretenses.
According to Capt. Michael Curtis, a spokesman for the base, the individuals claimed to work for a company subcontracted by Amazon and tried to drive onto the base through the Fuller Road Gate. However, they were intercepted by military police officers who prevented further access and detained the individuals, who were later handed over to ICE custody.
Earlier this month, Potomac Local News reported that one of the men is on the U.S. terrorist watch list.
