On Tuesday, Trump stopped by the first White House tour, commending First Lady Melania Trump for her efforts in organizing the event.
“Thank you all very much for being here. The tour is fantastic,” Trump expressed to the crowd gathered in an underground corridor.
“The First Lady put a lot of effort into making it wonderful, and I believe you’re really going to enjoy it.”
Trump mentioned that he had “heard” about the tour and wanted to “stop by and greet everyone.”
“You’re all very sharp-looking individuals, I must say. Very sharp. Maybe one day you’ll be here as president,” drawing laughter from the attendees.
He concluded by instructing the staff to provide the group with a “special tour,” which prompted chants of “USA! USA!” from the crowd.
On February 12th, Melania announced that tours would recommence after being paused during the transition period before Trump returned to the White House.
“The President and I are thrilled to reopen the White House to those interested in the remarkable history of this iconic landmark,” Melania stated at the time.
“There’s so much to learn about the American Presidency, the First Families who have lived here, and our Nation’s rich history through a firsthand experience at the White House,” the First Lady added. “This is a unique opportunity among nations worldwide — a tradition we are privileged to continue for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come annually.”
Requests for public tours must be submitted via a Member of Congress, as stated by the National Park Service (NPS).
According to officials, the complimentary tour allows access to the Vermeil Room, Library, China Room, Blue Room, Red Room, Green Room, State Dining Room, and a glimpse of the White House Kennedy Garden.
Self-guided tours last approximately 45 minutes and are typically available from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday (excluding federal holidays or as otherwise noted).
