Report Shows 2,000 Anti-Semitic Incidents Recorded in First Half of 2024
Discourse relating to the October 7 Hamas terror attack, Israel, or the Palestinian territories was recorded in more than half of all incidents.
A charity has found that a record high number of anti-Semitic incidents occurred in the first half of this year, with the majority being motivated by the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Of the incidents, abusive behavior was the most recorded (1,618), followed by threats (142), assault (121), and damage and desecration (83).
The majority of incidents occurred in Greater London (1,037), followed by Greater Manchester (268) and West Yorkshire (115).
52 percent of incidents were related to discourse about Israel, the October 7 Hamas terror attack, or the Palestinian territories, according to the CST.
Dr. Dave Rich, the CST’s director of policy, noted that the increase in anti-Semitism following the attack was unprecedented.
Anti-Semitism on Campus
Similar trends were observed in the CST’s annual report for 2023.
Halfon criticized institutions for failing to address anti-Semitism adequately.
For example, in February, the Jewish chaplain at the University of Leeds received threats, leading him and his family to go into hiding.
Activists at various universities called on their institutions to disclose partnerships with arms manufacturers linked to Israel.
In recent months, legal battles have ensued to remove these activists and their encampments from campuses.
