The Silence of NYC Democrats on Biden’s Actions Towards Israel is Disappointing

President Biden has turned his back on Israel, and most of New York City’s congressional Democrats are avoiding taking a firm stand.

It’s no surprise that radical Reps. Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez celebrated Biden’s decision to pause much military aid, while Rep. Ritchie Torres opposed it.

Nassau’s Tom Suozzi ended up on the right side of the issue.

However, the majority of the other Democrats, including Brooklyn’s Sen. Chuck Schumer, who claims to be a protector of Israel, are remaining silent.

Bowman (D-Bronx/Westchester) rightly saw through Biden’s actions, tweeting “Protesting is working,” while AOC’s “Biden has not ‘lost his mind’” seems overly optimistic.

Torres hit the nail on the head with his statement, “As the leader of the free world, America cannot claim that its commitment to Israel is ‘iron-clad’ and then proceed to withhold aid from Israel.”

He also noted, “The mixed messaging makes a mockery of our credibility as an ally. No one will take our word seriously.”

Schumer, the highest ranking Jewish elected official in the nation, remained quiet on the issue, posting about other topics on X.

Although Suozzi initially had a softer reaction on X, he later joined Torres in signing Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer’s letter criticizing Biden for a move that “emboldens” terrorists.

Queens Rep. Grace Meng made a statement, albeit a vague one, about continuing to work to protect civilians despite Hamas’ actions.

However, many other local Democrats are betraying the 1.9 million Jewish New Yorkers in the metro area with their silence.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Reps. Gregory Meeks, Dan Goldman, and Jerry Nadler all refrained from immediate comment.

Aside from Torres and Suozzi, the only NYC member of Congress to criticize Biden was GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, who urged him to stop appeasing radicals in the party who support Iran and Hamas.

Gottheimer’s letter highlights the central issue: “Public disputes with our critical ally only embolden our mutual enemies, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and other Iranian-backed proxies.”

Yet, apart from Torres and Suozzi, it seems that no other Democrat from New York in Congress cares about the president abandoning America’s closest ally in the Middle East during a critical time.
