Ben Savage, an American actor who rose to fame playing the lead role in the 1990s sitcom “Boy Meets World,” is planning to run for Congress as a Democrat.

According to a file submitted on Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the 42-year-old is making a bid for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 30th Congressional District.

That seat is currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Schiff is rumored to run for U.S. Senate and replace incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), an 89-year-old politician and the longest-serving female senator ever. However, Feinstein has yet to formally announce whether she will seek another term.

Savage, a Chicago native, has yet to make a public announcement about the run.

Representatives for Savage told Fox News in a statement that the actor is currently “focused on his upcoming wedding,” while also noting that he’s “still making decisions and always looking for opportunities to give back and serve the community.”

Last week, Savage teased about his engagement with longtime girlfriend Tessa Angermeier. The actor shared a picture on Instagram that shows Angermeier’s left hand with a diamond ring.

“The best is yet to come,” Savage captioned the post.

In 2022, the actor-turned-politician made an unsuccessful bid for a spot on the West Hollywood Council.

According to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder, Savage garnered a total of 2,330 votes, or about 6.3 percent, earning him seventh place out of 12 candidates. Former West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister, a 62-year-old Democrat, came in first with 6,070 votes, or about 16.4 percent.

Savage said on his campaign website that he made a bid for a spot on the West Hollywood Council due to people’s disappointment with the direction the city is heading.

“Residents and community leaders have expressed frustration with the political divisiveness and loss of a sense of community,” the page states. “People are eager for leaders who can talk to each other, build coalitions, work together on common sense policies and put the interests of the city and residents above their own.”

“The city is facing serious challenges around public safety, struggling businesses, inflation and the cost of housing,” he added. “We need new leaders with a fresh perspective who are ready to begin tackling these issues.”

Savage, a longtime Los Angeles resident, became a household name in the 1990s for his role as Cory Matthews on “Boy Meets World” and later its sequel, “Girl Meets World,” which ran from 2014 to 2017.

He also appeared in a number of other shows, including the crime drama TV series “Criminal Minds,” and the espionage thriller, “Homeland,” among many others.
